The best settings for manga on a Kindle Paperwhite

Updated 2026-11-02

The Paperwhite's 300 ppi screen shows manga beautifully, but only if the pages are prepared for it. These are the settings we recommend.

Device profile

Choose the exact model. Each Paperwhite generation has a different resolution (the first ones are 758×1024, recent ones well over 1200×1600), and the right profile means full-screen pages with no scaling blur.

Format

PDF for a USB copy, EPUB for Send to Kindle. Both use the same tuned images.

Double-page spreads

Split is best for reading in portrait. Rotate keeps the whole spread on one landscape page. Both gives you the split pages followed by the full spread.

Contrast

Leave tone on Auto. Use Darker for faded or greyish scans and Lighter for heavy, dark scans. Pro's lossless 16-grey mode matches the Kindle's 16 shades exactly, which keeps screentones smooth.

File size

A 200-page volume is usually 40–90 MB as high-quality JPEG and somewhat more lossless. Paperwhites have 8–32 GB, so file size rarely matters on a cable copy. For Send to Kindle, we split anything over 200 MB.
